The Transportation Academy is a two-week, in-person immersion into different facets of the transportation industry, for undergraduate and graduate college students, hosted by the Women’s Transportation Seminar, Orange County Chapter (WTS-OC). All interested students are encouraged to apply; the Transportation Academy is open to men and women. There is no cost to students for this program.

Students of all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply! 

Because the transportation industry has a wide range of career options, the 2024 Transportation Academy will cover career opportunities in engineering/design, urban planning/environmental planning, and government affairs/outreach. Students will attend specialized programs with industry leaders, giving insight into careers in the transportation industry that complement their major. Students will hear from top executives in the transportation field and will experience different facets of transportation first-hand through a series of seminars, live tours, hands on activities, networking, and more.

Location

The programs will be hosted by the participating firms and public agencies primarily in Orange County (Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana); however, select days may be hosted in Los Angeles. Students will be required to provide their own transportation to and from in-person programs and will be responsible for any parking costs (when necessary). Depending on the time of the in-person program, breakfast or lunch will be provided.

Dates

The Transportation Academy will be held Monday, July 29 through Friday, Aug. 2 and Monday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 9. There will generally be a morning session from 8 am to 12 pm and an afternoon session from 1 pm to 5 pm. A detailed schedule will be released upon acceptance into the program.

The program is limited to 25 students. Notifications of award will be sent by Friday, July 12.
